Hello, I just picked up a new mid-2015 macbook pro 15' with 16gb ram, 512gb storage, and dedicated graphics card [upgraded to newest OS as well]. I performed a small test on my MacBook Pro with 2.5 Ghz Intel Core i5 Processor and 8 GB of RAM using Parallels Desktop 10 for Mac and Windows 8.1 installed in a VM: First, I allocated 2 CPUs and 2 GB of RAM to the VM and opened Microsoft Office 2013 and Auto Desk Revit Architecture 2015. Windows got to use all the resources of your Mac; it didn't have to compete with the Mac OS for CPU cycles and RAM since Windows was all that was running. With Parallels (or other software that supports virtual machines, such as VMware Fusion), Windows is running inside of the Mac. Hi all, I have installed Windows 7 on Parallels. I wouldn't expect Apple's disk repair utility to work on a flash drive. As for Word reading and writing to a flash drive is not goint to work very, if at all. Word has to keep a bunch of temporary files and relies on disk access speed to get its job done.
So Flash drives become a particular problem for Word and that's probably why the file becomes read only. Working locally is always better.
